Backpacking the Weminuche

This crossing of Elk Creek was a tough one. Slippery rocks, and fast moving, cold, deep water made this a wet, shoe soaking affair. I'll bet I walked a quarter mile in each direction looking for an easier crossing but couldn't find one. It's hard to tell from this picture, but this crossing was probably thirty feet across and up to your thighs deep. I found that looking at the water while crossing made me dizzy, so I concentrated on the shoreline I was trying to reach. I managed to cross it twice without falling in.
